“That was regrettable. That was essentially an interaction with our fans out in front of us,” Jones stated during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a large group of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was brimming with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further emphasized that the gesture was completely unintentional, happening amid the elation following the team’s last score. “I just put up the wrong digit,” he noted. “It was inadvertently done. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it accidental, you can. However, it got resolved pretty quick.”
Historical Precedent for Owner Fines
This is not the initial instance an NFL owner has been penalized for misconduct. Recent examples include:
- Carolina Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for tossing a beverage at spectators in early 2024.
